Tenet earns more than twice as much as expected / feared

“Tenet” earns more than twice as much as expected / feared!

Was it brave or rather hara-kiri to bring “Tenet” to the cinemas in these strange times? In any case, the international sales results of the first weekend are a positive surprise …

Predicting the box office results of movies is difficult enough in normal times. But now that nobody really knows how the audience will react in different countries, it’s almost impossible. And so it is not too much of a surprise that most of the experts in their forecasts for the international release of Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” were quite wrong.

that most of the experts in their predictions for the international release of Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” were quite wrong.

Last weekend, when “Tenet” was launched in 41 international territories (the most important markets of China and the USA to follow one week later), an average of $ 25 million was forecast for the sci-fi agent actioner. Some very courageous even dared to predict beyond the 30 million – and hardly anyone dared to approach 40 million …

Now the first results are there – and “Tenet” has brought in a surprisingly strong 53 million dollars. In addition to $ 7.1 million from Great Britain, France (6.7 million) and Korea (5 123movies hd.1 million) contributed most to the good performance. In Germany it is probably 4.2 million dollars according to current projections – that would be more than “Dunkirk” and “Interstellar” washed into the coffers on their first weekend in this country (without Corona).

and “Tenet” grossed a surprisingly strong $ 53 million.

So far, the rules of distance have apparently been balanced by the fact that “Tenet” continues to run in cinemas with almost no competition – and could hold up for the next few weeks without too much loss. If that is the case, “Tenet” could end up being one of the more successful Christopher Nolan films in Germany.

In the end, “Tenet” could even be one of the more successful Christopher Nolan films in Germany.

What do the Disney bosses think now?

Christopher Nolan is adored by many cinema fans, but his blockbusters are still not a safe bet at the box office: Apart from the “The Dark Knight” trilogy and “Inception”, his films were mostly successful, but they were not automatic mega-hits either . In contrast to the Disney remake “Mulan”, which in normal times would certainly have had the chance to scratch the billion mark.

But in contrast to the “Tenet” studio Warner Bros. Disney has just decided to stop the theatrical release of “Mulan” in most countries and instead to release the film as VoD on Disney. The idea behind it was certainly to somehow get the best out of a shitty situation. But now it turns out: A lot would probably have been possible for “Mulan” after all! But it’s too late to rethink – the home cinema release of “Mulan” is already at the end of this week.

Probably a lot would have been possible for “Mulan” after all!

“Tenet” has been in German cinemas since August 26, 2020.
